SAN FRANCISCO -- A fatal shooting in San Francisco's Mission District near the intersection of Mission and 16th Streets Tuesday night has left one person dead and hospitalized three others. Russell Cummings, 26, died after being taken to San Francisco General Hospital, a spokesman for the Medical Examiner said Wednesday. Shortly after midnight Sgt. Neville Gittens said that a second shooting victim was suffering life-threatening injuries. Police found four gunshot victims in the 1900 block of Mission Street, near the 16th Street Mission BART station, after being called at 10:18 p.m. All four were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. Two of the victims are expected to recover, Gittens said. The scene was chaotic when police arrived, according to Gittens. Police believe the shooter or shooters walked up to the victims and opened fire in front of a store. Shots were fired toward the BART station and across the street. Passersby were scattering and struggling to help the victims. Gittens said numerous shell casings were found on the scene. No arrest has been made in connection with the shooting, according to police.
