FREMONT -- A 2-year-old boy drowned in an apartment complex pool after wandering off while his mother did laundry, police said. Andrew Foley was found floating in the pool at the Cherry Glen apartment complex about 5:45 p.m. Monday. Investigators were trying to determine how he got into the gated pool area, said Detective William Veteran. Officers tried to resuscitate him in the back of their squad car during a seven-minute ride to Washington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The toddler's mother, Stephanie Foley, was washing clothes in the community laundry room when she noticed he had slipped away. She searched the complex for 10 or 15 minutes before calling police. An officer who spotted Andrew in the pool jumped over the gate and pulled him from the water. "It's a tragic accident," Veteran said. "At this point, based on a preliminary investigation, there doesn't seem to be anything negligent or criminal involved." An autopsy was scheduled Tuesday.
