SAN JOSE -- Investigators Tuesday were trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the late night death of an 11-year-old girl whose body was found at the bottom of a San Jose pool.San Jose Police Sgt. Nick Muyo said the pre-teen girl had been reported missing earlier in the evening by her family. Police were called to the Prospect Plaza apartment complex at 5450 Mayme Ave. around 10:20 p.m., about an hour after a family member couldn't find her, Muyo said. While searching the grounds, police discovered the girl at the bottom of the apartment's pool. Officers quickly pulled her out of the water and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate her. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The girl's grief-stricken father was also transported by ambulance to a local hospital after passing out when learning of his daughter's death, Muyo said. A few neighbors reported seeing the girl near the pool area about an hour or so before police discovered her, Muyo said. It remains unclear what the girl was doing at the pool, but police suspect whatever happened was an accident as no evidence of foul play has been found at this time. Muyo would not disclose whether the girl and her family lived at the apartment complex. Her name and age has not been released.
