PETALUMA -- Petaluma police said a man suspected of robbing the Bank of America in Petaluma on June 14 and several others in the Bay Area was arrested Wednesday morning by Albany and San Pablo police. James Daniel Moffitt, 49, was arrested at 4 a.m. Wednesday by Albany and San Pablo police in San Pablo for two bank robberies in Albany, one in Fremont and an attempted robbery in Berkeley, Albany police said. Albany police recovered physical items linking Moffitt to robberies in Alameda County and evidence from the Petaluma robbery, Fish said. Petaluma police then matched photos of Moffitt to the suspect in the Petaluma robbery on N. McDowell Boulevard, Fish said. Fish said there have been 15 robberies or attempted robberies with similar circumstances in the past three months in Petaluma, Albany, El Sobrante, Berkeley, Fremont, Danville, Vacaville, Concord, Corte Madera, San Rafael, Mountain View and Mill Valley. In many of the cases, the suspect approached a teller, brandished or simulated a gun and demanded money, Fish said. No one was injured. Fish said Petaluma police will send the results of its investigation to the Sonoma County district attorney's office for a decision on charges and jurisdictional issues.
