LIVERMORE -- California Highway Patrol investigators believe a man found dead on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 near Grant Line Road in Alameda County Thursday morning came from a moving vehicle that might have later run off the road.

The CHP received a report at 6:26 a.m. of a man lying on the road, Officer Kevin Kroncke said. The man was found dead in the shoulder of the center divider on the split-lane highway.

A second person was found in a sedan-type car that was nearly 100 feet below the highway. That person was taken to an area hospital, the CHP reported.

It's possible the sedan ran off the road, as there are deep ravines along the highway, according to the CHP.
