OAKLAND, Calif. (BCN) - Amazon's Prime Now service became available for the first time today in the East Bay, company officials announced.
Prime Now is a free two-hour delivery service to Prime members, who can get tens of thousands of essential and other items by ordering through a mobile app.
East Bay residents can download the app at www.amazon.com/primenow.
One-hour service is available for $7.99 per delivery. The cost to be a Prime member is $99 per year.
"Prime Now is really good if you're in a pinch," Amazon spokeswoman Ashley Robinson said.
People who have a baby napping or who have guests coming should find it useful. Or people who have had a long day at work and do not want to go out.
The service in the East Bay is available from San Pablo to Hayward and east to Walnut Creek.
The service became available in San Francisco and the San Jose area in November 2015, company officials said.
Some of the items available include produce, frozen foods, such as pizza and ice cream, and household cleaning supplies.
Other items, such as toilet paper and even big screen TVs, are also available, Robinson said.
