Big waves draw surfers to Mavericks

PILLAR POINT, Calif. - Big wave surfers were out at Mavericks Wednesday catching waves more than 20 feet high.

The window for the big wave surf contest is open, but the Mavericks contest has not been called yet.

The same swell hitting California's coast is also producing huge waves in Hawaii where the Peahi Challenge at Jaws in Maui is scheduled to take place on Thursday. 

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory off the California coast until 6 p.m. Thursday.
