Bird contacts PG&E equipment, knocks out power to thousands in Petaluma

All but 1,570 electric customers have power again following an outage this morning in Petaluma that occurred when a bird contacted PG&E equipment, a company spokeswoman said.

Spokeswoman Karly Hernandez said crews expect to have the rest of the customers restored by about 2:30 p.m.

PG&E uses flight diverters to reduce the chance of bird collisions.

At one point, 17,670 customers were without power, Hernandez said.
