Brush fire starts near 1991 memorial to Oakland Hills firestorm

Oakland Fire Department crews have contained a wildfire at Tunnel Road and Hiller Drive early Thursday morning that started by the 1991 memorial to the Oakland Hills firestorm.

The fire started at 1:41 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol, and was burning on a 50-by-100-foot steep grade. It was declared under control at 2:23 a.m., said Fire Capt. Ron Johnson.

Engines from the Berkeley Fire Department and Contra Costa County Fire Department also assisted Oakland fire crews.
