Bryan Stow condemns brawl after 49ers-Viking game

CAPITOLA, Calif. (KTVU) -- Giants fan Bryan Stow spoke out Wednesday in the wake of a parking lot fight video outside Levi’s Stadium between a Viking fan and 49ers fans that went viral.
Stow is calling the victim in the attack lucky given what he's been through and said the violence isn’t worth it.
For many people watching Monday’s night brawl of what appears to be 49er fans beating up a Vikings fan over smack talking is hard to watch. You can imagine how hard it was for Giants fan Bryan Stow.
“I felt anger,” said Stow. “I felt anger. That's what happened to me.”
Stow was in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium for the Giants Dodgers opening day game back in 2011 when he was attacked by Dodgers fans. It’s an assault that left him in a coma for nine months with severe brain damage.
He doesn't remember any of it. Four years later, he said, the most disturbing part is incident like this still happen.
“Why did you do this to somebody after the game?” said Stow. “They didn’t win by any more than you inflicted on this person. What are you going to prove by doing this?”
He said fans should be able to wear what they want at sporting events without fear. While he knows, alcohol at times can be a big factor his mission now is to stop violence early on. He’s started a new foundation talking to school kids about bullying.
“You don't have to be treated like this,” said Stow. “Look what I’ve had to go through. I think it's going to take somebody worse than what happened to me possibly killed over a fight or something.”
The Vikings fan in the video was able to walk away. As for Stow, he has limited movements and is still learning to walk again remarkably now with crutches.
He said he carries with him what Giants pitcher Jeremy Affeldt told him when a Giants game ends the rivalry should end on the field, not out on the stands or parking lot.
“He got lucky with as many people who were taking shots on him.” said Stow. “He definitely got lucky.”
