California Highway Patrol reports a shooting on westbound Highway 24 in Oakland just before the freeway turns into Highway 980 Friday evening.

According to CHP,  around 7:40 p.m. a family in a white four-door Dodge Avenger with multiple occupants inside was traveling westbound on SR-24 west of 51st Street when a grey sedan, also with an unknown number of people inside, pulled alongside the the Dodge and began firing shots at them before speeding away.

The vehicle being shot at was able to take off at the 27th Street exit off to West Grand and pulled into the Valero gas station on West Grand at Telegraph Avenue and called for police.

No one in the victim's vehicle was hit, but two bullet holes were found in the car.

Since the shooting took place on the freeway, the CHP is the investigating agency and will at some point run a traffic break on the freeway to search for evidence such as shell casings.
