CHP investigating possible DUI that killed one person

One person is dead after a crash in San Jose early Sunday morning.

CHP says the accident happened around 2:30 a.m.

Interstate 280 was closed for almost five hours, but reopened just after 7 a.m.

Reports say the driver of a Lexus was going very fast on southbound 280 near 11th Street, when he hit another car. That car overturned, but the only person inside was not seriously injured.

The Lexus then hit a Honda that burst into flames and the driver was seriously injured and could not get out.

Sgt. Daniel Hill with CHP says, "This was a rather spectacular collision, a lot of people did stop on both sides of the freeway. Many people did go to the driver of the Honda and try to get him out of the vehicle. Unfortunately, their attempts were unsuccessful."

The CHP says the Lexus driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital and both are expected to survive.

The driver of the Lexus is under investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol.
