APTOS, Calif. (KTVU) - CHP officers attended the Aptos High School graduation in a show of support for a student whose father was killed in the line of duty.
Sara Pedro, 18, was just two years old when her father Officer John Pedro was killed while patrolling in Santa Cruz County.
At the time of his death, Pedro was driving with his sirens on and lost control of the vehicle.
According to CHP, it's unclear why he lost control of the car. The patrol car hit a tree and the car overturned. Pedro was killed instantly. He was 36 years old at the time.
In a Facebook post, the CHP wrote, "As you can see, today truly was a celebration and these officers are so proud of Sara’s accomplishments. What an amazing woman!"
Officers also attended the graduation in support of Sara's mom.
