Camera / ENG Technician

SUMMARY: Clearly and creatively record news events and perform ENG operations so the story may be effectively conveyed to the viewers in a complete, factual, timely and professional manner by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Professional level of skill in operation of ENG livetrucks, ENG field cameras and field editing systems including non-linear, and associated photographic equipment. Professional level of skill in lighting and audio operations in the field.

Operate, service, and maintain in proper working order electronic equipment provided for the execution of assignments. Must be familiar with ENG technology and microwave transmission in order to carry out live shots. Must conduct wide range of ENG operations with a clear understanding of safety procedures.

Must be able to edit in the field under pressure and be familiar with non-linear editing.

Seek out and shoot live action, breaking news stories, monitor 2-way radio from newsroom and monitor police scanners for information on news stories.

Drive reporters to the scene of live, breaking news stories and to locations to shoot stories for later use on News programs. Must relate with Reporters in a professional manner.

Carry out the instructions of the Assignment Desk and Newsroom Managers.

May occasionally be required to photograph scenes from an airplane or helicopter or fly to an assignment in such an aircraft.

Assignments may include out of market and overnight travel. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or other advanced training in Photography and News or Motion Picture techniques and a minimum of five years of professional News Camera experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with the general public or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to quickly define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables in situations where no standardization exists.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: IATSE and IBEW Union memberships required.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Excellent driving record.< p/> Employees accomplish their duties using safe work practices and equipment, while being responsible for reporting all injuries, observed unsafe conditions or practices to their leader. Teamwork and the ability to get along with others is an essential function of the job.
