Director

Do you have the right mix of skills and leadership? This is a hard to find directors position in San Francisco!

KTVU has an immediate opening for a Director. The successful candidate’s primary duties will be directing fast paced live newscasts. Additional duties will include directing talk shows, sports specials and public affairs programs using the Grass Valley Ignite automation system. Position will require leadership and sound judgment under pressure. You must have the ability to interact with our experienced staff to present consistent, winning news broadcasts.

SUMMARY: Coordinates efforts of entire station crew to insure the highest quality live and taped production possible. Plan, coordinate, and direct all the people and activities necessary to insure smooth, clean, error-free programs (news, entertainment, public service and commercial) following the format, policy and guidelines established by Producers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Creative direction of talent and crews with either multi-camera or single-camera shooting from the Control Room (and on location) during broadcast.

While the main emphasis is news, this position may be called upon to direct all types of television station programs--sports, promotion, local programming, commercials and remotes. Consults with Producer, Anchors and other crew members on production needs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university in TV Production preferred. Actual experience may be substituted for certain educational requirements. A minimum of two years major-market Television direction experience or three years equivalent medium market experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, associates, clients, or customers.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Use of two-way radio, telephone, iNEWS newsroom computer system, Ignite Newscast Automation. Must have demonstrated skill and ability to creatively direct talent and crews for high quality production in all types of programs. Must also be clearly competent to work well with people to get a job completed in an efficient manner. Top notch people skills a must.

A strong and creative knowledge of state-of-the-art newscast elements is mandatory. You must have the ability to organize and incorporate a wide mix of broadcast components (satellite feeds, interviews, breaking news, server playback, advanced graphics systems, etc.) into each program.

Prior directing experience with Ignite or similar newscast automation systems and the Avid iNEWS system in a medium or major market is required.

We are looking for someone that can bring a fresh, positive focus to our productions. Director must have strong computer knowledge combined with the energy and initiative to manage a fast-paced work environment. News is a 24/7 business so be prepared to work early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays.
