National Sales Manager

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the General Sales Manager, co-directs the National Sales Department for KTVU. This involves continuing communication with TeleRep account executives, agencies and clients; assisting with sales efforts; managing inventory and pricing; providing direction and support to TeleRep and the local sales team; demonstrating leadership to the department and fellow managers – all designed to achieve and exceed station goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Achieving advertising revenue goals and objectives.
  • Managing sports, specials sales, internet, and new business to achieve goals
  • Acting as a primary resource and contact for clients
  • Managing, with the GSM and other sales managers, inventory and rates to maximize station revenue to achieve and exceed revenue goals
  • Provide guidance to Telerep and the local sales team to make effective rating and program analysis presentations
  • Advise Research Director in creation of research pieces to assist in sales efforts Creation and presentation of special presentations to clients and: key agency personnel Clearly defining TeleRep performance expectations, and measurement processes, to assure account executives and management efforts and attention will lead to achievement of those expectations
  • Develop relationships with station clients via frequent visibility by being active in the sales process; traveling to TeleRep markets, getting out on calls; entertaining key clients
  • Influencing members of the sales staff by winning their support; effectively understanding the motivators of each staff member; exercising effective leadership characteristics
  • Motivating and inspiring people to excel; appraise employees accurately; honestly; regularly
  • Staffing and recruiting efforts to assure high retention of staff
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in partnership with TeleRep management in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or four to five years related experience in National Sales or sales representative position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must be very knowledgeable in the basic and advanced techniques of selling television and in sales negotiation.

    Must have strong organizational skills, and demand high standards of self and others. Deadlines must be established, and achieved. Must have strong ability to proactively build relationships with clients at all levels.
