SUMMARY:  Provides administrative support to the newsroom staff and managers by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The associate provides administrative support to the newsroom to insure an efficient and smooth running operation of a large department.  Responsibilities include proper handling and processing of all personnel related documents and files, attendance records, department goods and services, stocking of daily supplies, distribution of daily mail, helping to create and implement new procedures as needed.  The associate will be the principle trainer of new administrative systems for the employees, i.e. timesheets, reimbursement reports, etc.

In executing these responsibilities, the associate must have good communication skills to work directly with newsroom staff, station associates, as well as outside vendors.  The associate will need to be pro-active seeking solutions to problems and will be empowered to fully enforce departmental and station policies and procedures. 

With knowledge of the departmental budget, the associate will be involved with the preparation of monthly and annual budgets and financial reports. 

The associate will work closely with the News Director and the Associate News Director on special projects as assigned.  Because some of the projects may be sensitive or highly confidential, the associate must maintain a high level of confidentiality, know when to exercise discretion, and conduct oneself with the highest of ethical business standards.

The associate needs to be a self-starter, highly organized, and customer service oriented.  The associate must be able to handle the pressure of deadlines and handle staff personnel questions and issues with grace and ease.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college is preferred, but not required.  A minimum of three years payroll or business office experience and computer use is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one with employees, vendors and visitors. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret financial or other numerical information and generate reports with written summaries. 


REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Extensive experience with Microsoft computer software is required, with particular emphasis on Excel.  Familiarity with Word and Outlook also helpful.  Experience with financial or payrollcomputer programs also helpful.
