Contra Costa Co. community forum next week on possible radioactive materials at landfill

Contra Costa County officials are holding a community forum in Bay Point next week to answer questions and provide an update into the investigation into whether potentially radioactive materials went from San Francisco to a landfill in Pittsburg.
Contra Costa Environmental Health and county Supervisor Federal Glover are hosting the forum after Glover called for an investigation into whether the materials from the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard were deposited at the Keller Canyon Landfill.
Tetra Tech, a firm accused of falsifying data to minimize radiation levels in the soil at the San Francisco site, in a letter to Glover last month denied that any radioactive materials were in the waste taken away
from the San Francisco site.
The company has faced much criticism over the allegations of data falsification in the testing at Hunters Point and has offered to pay for retesting at the site by an independent third-party contractor.
Two former Tetra Tech supervisors have been convicted and sentenced to eight months in prison each for the falsification of records. A $27 billion class action lawsuit on behalf of San Francisco residents was also filed recently against the firm.
The meeting in Bay Point is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on June 21 at the Ambrose Community Center at 3105 Willow Pass Road.
Technical experts from the Radiologic Health Branch of the California Department of Public Health, the U.S. Navy, the San Francisco Bay Area Regional Water Quality Control Board and other state and federal agencies will be at the meeting, county officials said.
