Covered California opens enrollment with new marketing campaign

Covered California kicked off a new marketing campaign Wednesday to mark the start of open enrollment.

New television commercials began airing during Game 7 of the World Series on KTVU to promote open enrollment which takes place from Nov. 1 to Jan. 31, 2018. It is the one time of year when anyone who needs health insurance can enroll without having to meet special qualifying conditions.

Californians should enroll by Dec. 15 for coverage starting Jan. 1, 2018.

A Covered California spokesman tells KTVU the organization has worked to protect consumers here from the uncertainty surrounding health care coverage in other states and from the uncertainty coming out of Washington D.C.

Californians can expect to see premiums increase by an average of 12.5% next year. Bay Area counties will see smaller increases.

The organization is trying to spread the word through what is called the “Covered in Art” bus tour. It started in Los Angeles on Wednesday and will make 22 stops in cities across the state. The bus tour will end next week in Oakland.

If you are already enrolled, the renewal process should be seamless. If you have changes locations or telephone numbers, you can report any changes online or call a certified agent for help.

Roughly 1.4 million people are enrolled in Covered California.
