A disaster readiness event is showing the Bay Area how to prepare in case of a natural disaster, like an earthquake or fire.

First responders and emergency workers organized an emergency preparedness at Three Crosses Church in Castro Valley.

KTVU's Christien Kafton stepped into an earthquake simulator to get a sense for what an 8.1 earthquake might feel like.

The parking lot was filled with experts demonstrating everything from techniques on how to get out of a burning building, to helping people getting their own disaster kit together.

Experts recommend having supplies on hand for 72 hours after a disaster.
