SAN FRANCISCO —

The new SFJAZZ Center is holding its opening night concert Wednesday night, a star-studded event that will be emceed by comedian Bill Cosby.

The sold-out concert, scheduled for 8 p.m., will include performances by McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Esperanza Spalding and other jazz musicians playing in the brand-new 700-seat auditorium.

The center, located at Franklin and Fell streets in the city's Hayes Valley neighborhood, held a boisterous opening ceremony on Monday with a brass band playing "When the Saints Go Marching In" as the doors were opened to the public for the first time.

The opening of the $64 million building comes on the 30th anniversary of the start of SFJAZZ, a performing arts organization that was founded by Randall Kline and initially began as a weekend festival called "Jazz in the City."

More information about the new building and upcoming shows can be found online at www.sfjazz.org.
