Lalah Hathaway

As the daughter of classic '70 soul singer Donny Hathaway and her classically trained vocalist mother Eulaulah, Lalah Hathaway could be the poster child for genetic coding. Given such auspicious DNA, it's no surprise to discover that she is also a gifted singer. She came on the soul scene in 1990 with a self-titled R&B album for Virgin Records that announced her as a promising new talent.

Hathaway has since ably split her efforts between contemporary soul and jazz, producing her own pop songs as well as recording and touring with such noted jazz artists as Joe Sample, Marcus Miller and Grover Washington. This headlining series of shows at Yoshi's will focus on Hathaway's seductive urban soul originals drawn from her sixth solo album and second for Stax Records, Where It All Begins. If fans are lucky, they may get treated to a song or two from her dad's brilliant catalog.
