The winner of several Emmy Awards as well as a Tony Award (for Anything Goes), the late, legendary choreographer Michael Smuin made a name for himself in film, on Broadway and especially on the ballet stage with the dance company that shares his name. Though the group's charismatic leader passed away in 2007, the Smuin Ballet continues its success as one of the Bay Area's most acclaimed performing arts companies.

The company brings classical ballet sizzle and Broadway pizzaz to a program of holiday music for the 2012 edition of The Christmas Ballet. Featuring both sacred and secular Christmas music, the holiday celebration combines beautiful and classic ballet performances with charming, humorous, and sexy dance pieces set to seasonal music ranging from classical to carols to Elvis to klezmer.

This year The Christmas Ballet will include new choreography from acclaimed Choreographer in Residence Amy Seiwert as well as Smuin dancer Jane Rehm and former Smuin dancer Darren Anderson to go along with some traditional favorites. This snow-filled extravaganza offers something for everyone, from ballet, tap, and swing to a wealth of other dances drawn from holiday traditions from around the world. On Thursday, Dec. 13, the company will hold a special preview performance at the Yerba Buena Center with flat pricing of $40 for all tickets. You can get more information on The Christmas Ballet are available at the Smuin Ballet website.
