Thee Oh Sees

The brainchild of underground fixture John Dwyer (Pink and Brown, Coachwhips) and singer/keyboardist Brigid Dawson, Thee Oh Sees began as OCS or Orange County Sounds, a laid back, lo-fi recording project. The early recordings featured Dwyer’s and Dawson’s vocals steeped in reverb, backed by Dwyer’s virtuoso guitar playing and sound effects straight from a ‘60s sci-fi movie.

After releasing five albums of what would now be described as "weird folk," Dwyer decided to turn up the energy and appeal to the audience he built with the Coachwhips. After adding a few more members (guitarist Petey Dammit and drummer Mike Shoun ) and changing the moniker to Thee Oh Sees, the band went on to release a fusillade of singles and albums including such acclaimed efforts as The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In in 2008 and last year's Warm Slime. Churning out a danceable style of hypnotic garage-punk that would make the Cramps proud, the band has earned a deserved reputation as a powerhouse live band.

As the band continues to crank out releases at a remarkable pace -- last year they produced the more pop-minded Castlemania followed by the propulsive and chaotic rager Carrion Crawler/The Dream as well as double album compilation of numerous singles -- they always pack in fans at their frequent local shows, playing anywhere with a P.A. and room to dance. Thee Oh Sees will deliver tunes drawn from their latest stellar effort on In the Red Records -- Floating Coffins -- when the band headlines this shows at Brick and Mortar. Fellow SF punks Culture Kids open the show.
