SEATTLE, Washington (KTVU) - Witnesses are describing a Seattle neighborhood rocked by an early morning explosion, as a "war zone."
The blast sent 9 firefighters to the hospital.
They were checking out a report of a gas leak, when the explosion occured around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The eight fire crew members and 1 battalion chief suffered minor injuries, including burns and abrasions.
A hospital spokeswoman said all of the firefighters are expected to be released soon.
Several buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.
There are no reports of any other injuries, but dogs have been brought in to go through the rubble, to detect anyone who may be trapped.
At least one, and possibly two buildings were heavily damaged, with numerous shattered windows.
