Family of pregnant woman murdered in Concord's emotional plea

The family of woman who was murdered in Concord is pleading for the public’s help to catch her killer.

Poinsettia Parks was killed on May 17 at Newhall Park in Concord. Her body was found in a pond, according to police.

Nicolia Stephens can’t help but think of her younger sister’s last moments. Stephens said she practically raised her sister and always vowed to keep her safe.

“I wasn’t here to protect her while she was fighting for her life,” she said.

Stephens said her sister’s death has been especially hard on their mother.

Parks leaves behind a 7-year-old daughter and she was pregnant with her second child.

“She always brought light to everyone,” Stephens said. “She was illuminating. You could meet her for 5 minutes, you might not remember her name, but you would remember her smile.”

Parks worked as a security guard for a Safeway. She also had plans to move to Las Vegas.

“She still had goals and I think that’s what hurts the most,” she said. “I won’t see her get a chance to achieve those goals.”

Concord Police said they believe 26-year-old Erick Lamar Nelson killed Parks. Detectives have a warrant for his arrest. They said he may be in Parks’ car, a dark-colored emerald green Kia Spectra, license plate:  5ENY919.

Stephens said her sister was recently dating Nelson. She is hurt, angry and said she won’t have peace until he is found.

“All I can think about is finding him,” she said. “He needs to be found period.”

Authorities said Nelson has a violent history. He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Concord Police at (925) 603-5922. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the Tip-Line at (925)-603-5836.
