Elderly man killed on US 101 in South San Francisco: CHP

An elderly man was killed Monday morning after a driver struck him on US Highway 101 at Grand Avenue in South San Francisco, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A sergeant told KTVU that the driver ended up stopping at the Hall of Justice in San Francisco and telling authorities what happened. The sergeant said that it's unclear why the man was on the freeway.

The collision was first reported at 3:12 a.m.

A Sig-alert was issued at 3:59 a.m. because all southbound lanes  on U.S. Highway 101 are blocked. Lanes were reopened before 6 a.m.
