Fire destroys San Jose auto shop

A fire destroyed a San Jose auto shop Sunday night, and there is growing concern the building may collapse.

The fire broke out at Tagami Auto Repair Shop on South Almaden Avenue.

According to authorities, the shop's owner was working on a car. He stepped away, but moments later the car's owner was screaming the car was on fire. The shop's owner and car's owner were able to get out of the auto shop safely.

Fire officials believe the car was leaking gas, and think the fire was accidental.

The building's roof collapsed, and fire officials think the auto shop may have to be demolished.

About 50 firefighters were called to the scene because of the flammable liquids inside the shop. Since the auto shop is located next to apartments, crews put fencing around the building.

People living in the apartment building were evacuated. They have since been allowed to return home.
