Firefighter killed fighting Thomas Fire leaves behind pregnant wife and 2-year-old daughter

A firefighter assigned to fight the Thomas fire in Ventura County has died.
 
The firefighter was identified as 32-year-old Cory Iverson from Cal Fire San Diego. During a  press conference on Thursday afternoon, Cal Fire said that Iverson leaves behind his pregnant wife, Ashley, and their 2-year-old daughter. 


 

Pimlott says the firefighter was a Cal Fire engineer from a San Diego unit. The firefighter's name has not been released.
 
More than 8,000 firefighters are working on what is now the fourth-largest wildfire in California history, covering 379 square miles (982 square kilometers), in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
