Firefighters investigating arson at Concord JC Penney

Police and firefighters are investigating an arson Saturday night at a shopping mall in Concord.

At about 9:30 p.m., Concord police issued a statement on their Facebook page saying they had received reports of a large fire at the JC Penney store at the Sun Valley Shopping Center.

Police and fire crews responded and located the fire in the northwest corner of the store.

Several clothing racks and a portion of the building were damaged, police said. About 20 store employees and 50 customers were evacuated. No one was injured, police said. 3

The fire was determined to be an arson, police said. Further details were not immediately available.

The case remains under investigation.
