DALY CITY, Calif. (BCN) - A gas leak that prompted evacuations of nearby homes in Daly City has been safely capped this afternoon, a PG&E spokeswoman said.
The leak was first reported to PG&E at about 10:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Niantic Avenue after a third-party construction crew hit a 1.25-inch natural gas line in front of a home, utility spokeswoman Andrea Menniti said.
PG&E crews, Daly City police officers and North County Fire Authority firefighters responded to secure the scene. Menniti said the flow of gas was stopped at 12:58 p.m.
Police said four nearby homes had to be evacuated as a result of the gas leak.
The home the leak occurred in front of remains without gas service, according to Menniti. She said crews will remain on scene this afternoon to make necessary repairs.
Niantic Avenue was shut down as a result of the gas leak but has since reopened, according to police.
