Ghoulish garments: Workers make bizarre discovery in subway

Color it a coincidence that workers found two tattered rags fastened to bizarre masks just days before Halloween during construction at a Boston subway station.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officials say the workers discovered a pair of ghoulish garments while rebuilding the Government Center Station. Officials say crews found two star-spangled cloaks with built-in masks balled up in a hollow section of concrete that was poured more than 60 years ago.

It's apparently not a case of Halloween hijinks. MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo says it wasn't a trick, but they don't know where the red and blue garments came from.

Workers found the odd outfits during part of a two-year, $82 million renovation project. The station is scheduled to reopen in the spring.
