Golden State Killer suspect's estranged wife releases statement

As detectives continue to investigate the Golden State Killer case, the suspect's estranged wife has released a statement.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has been in contact with Joseph DeAngelo's estranged wife Sharon Huddle.

Much of DeAngelo's personal life remains a mystery. According to the Sacramento Bee, DeAngelo and Huddle were married in the fall of 1973. Huddle obtained a law degree in 1982, and worked in family law, according to the Los Angeles Times. According to reports, the couple has been separated since 1991.

For the first time Huddle has released a brief  statement saying in part, "My thoughts and prayers are for the victims and their families."

She added that the press has relentlessly pursued interviews and she will not be giving any for the foreseeable future.

DeAngelo, 72, was arrested in April in a quiet, middle class neighborhood in the Sacramento suburb of Citrus Heights.

The arrest was made after a DNA match indicated he was the Golden State Killer linked to at least 12 homicides and 45 rapes throughout the state in the 1970's and '80's.

Neighbors on Canyon Oak Drive tell KTVU DeAngelo lived in the home with his daughter and 15-year-old granddaughter.

DeAngelo's next court date is set for July 12 in Sacramento County.
