Hundreds ride illegally at San Jose 'sideshow,' police arrest 5

- San Jose police arrested four people for reckless driving and issued two citations on Sunday following a series of sideshows where at least one officer was injured when a car possibly ran over his foot. The CHP announced Monday morning, a fifth arrest has been made.

Twenty-three-year-old Jeff Michael Geronimo Aguinto of Daly City was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail for felony reckless driving.

According to the CHP, Andreas Militapes Maos, 24, of San Bruno was booked into Santa Rita Jail for reckless driving and exhibition of speed; Agustin Arriaga, 24, of Manteca was booked into Santa Rita Jail for reckless driving and exhibition of speed, and Heuer Anibal Baeza, 42, of San Jose was booked into Santa Rita Jail for felony reckless evading, driving with a suspended license, vandalism, reckless driving and exhibition of speed.

A 15-year-old juvenile from Pacoima was also arrested and booked for felony grand theft auto, driving unlicensed, reckless driving, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest.

Earlier Sgt. Enrique Garcia said they were looking for a young man in his 20s who they say struck a police officer vehicle. He was driving away in a maroon or brown 2-door Nissa with a license plate 240SXE. At this point, it's unclear if that suspect was included in the arrest announcement.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and Morgan Hill police say altogether, about 400 participants rode dangerously and illegally in the streets near Hotstetter road and Interstate Highway 680 on Sunday about 10 p.m.

“We were able to issue some citations, make some arrests tonight, we're still working on final number,” San Jose Police Lt. Brian Anderson said. “We did have an officer who was injured during the process of this, but it was just a couple of scrapes and bruises.”

The injured officer has been treated and released from the hospital.
