Jailhouse Interview: Man says kidnapping accusations are false

David Lee Russell says the accusations against him are all lies.

The convicted sex offender is accused of attacking and trying to kidnap two women in San Jose last week.

He was arrested yesterday, after apparently switching vehicles, shaving his goatee and dying his hair.

Russell sat down for a jailhouse interview because he says he wants to set the record straight.

He says after a friendly conversation at a Goodwill store in San Jose, he tried to offer a young woman a ride home.

"The girl never got in my car. I don't understand. If you talk to somebody and say hey do you need a ride and she freaks out and you walk away, how is that, how did I do anything?" he said.

"I didn't grab her. I didn't touch her. I don't understand."

He says he may or may not have hugged her, he can't remember and he says he offered her a jacket to keep warm.

Prosecutors tell a different story. They say in both attacks, Russell tried to throw sweatshirts over his victims' heads, then forcibly drag them into his SUV.

Russell was arraigned Wednesday. He's being held on no bail. His next court date is set for September 14th.
