Aaron Peskin returned to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Tuesday after winning back his seat in the November election.

Peskin won more than 52 percent of votes from residents in District 3 during the Nov. 3 election, defeating Mayor Ed Lee's preferred candidate Julie Christensen as well as Wilma Pang.

Peskin took the oath of office, administered by City Attorney Dennis Herrera, marking the beginning of his third non-consecutive term.

Peskin was first elected to the board in 2000 and again in 2004.

In board chambers this afternoon at the weekly board meeting, Lee and Peskin's fellow supervisors congratulated him and expressed their interest in working with him on tackling tough policy issues, especially those regarding housing.

Peskin, following his November win, took a 20-day trek through Nepal with his wife and said he is now ready to focus his efforts on stopping evictions, increasing access to public open space and improving the transit system and safety in San Francisco.

He said he also looks forward to leading independent oversight of the city's budget and public services.

Peskin had posted on social media about his 20-day hike ahead of his first board meeting.

Peskin's public swearing in ceremony is scheduled for January.
