BERKELEY (BCN) -- Berkeley interim police Chief Andrew Greenwood has now been named the city's permanent chief, city officials said.

The Berkeley City Council voted at its meeting on Tuesday night to appoint Greenwood to be the permanent chief.

He will be formally sworn in at a ceremony on April 20, city officials said.

Greenwood has been interim chief since former Chief Michael Meehan stepped down on Oct. 14.
