Mission Pie closing its doors for good on Sept. 1

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KTVU) - The age-old saying goes, "All good things, must come to an end,” but sometimes you're just not ready to accept what is. 

After 12 years in business, San Francisco's Mission Pie will close its doors on Sep. 1, Mission Local reports. 

For over a decade, owners Krystin Rubin and Karen Heisler, have been whipping up high-quality pies from ethically sourced ingredients at an affordable price.

But the owners told Mission Local, in order to sustain the bakery financially, great risks would be involved that would compromise their values. 

They explored a number of options to increase business through third-party delivery services. 

They considered delivery apps like Postmates and Cavier, but most companies charge a 30 percent commission. 

They even looked into mail-order businesses that would ship the pies out, but the baked goods wouldn't be as fresh. 

With all options on the table, Rubin and Heisler made the difficult decision to close up shop for good.

"We have made this choice because we believe wholeheartedly in what Mission Pie has been and promised to always be," they said in an Instagram post.
