Police: Rash of car burglaries and vehicle thefts at East Bay BART stations

- Police are investigating a series of car break-ins, as well as some vehicle thefts at several different BART stations in the East Bay on Wednesday. 

According to BART police, two cars parked at the Rockridge station in Oakland were burglarized sometime between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The thieves smashed the cars' windows. They made off with cash and a FasTrak transponder from one of the vehicles, police said.

At the Fruitvale station in Oakland, someone stole cash from a parked car sometime between 6:45 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. 

There was a report of another burglary shortly after 9:00 p.m. at the Coliseum station, where someone broke into a car and stole cash and a FasTrak transponder, police said.

At the South Hayward station, a thief stole a Nissan from the station parking lot. The theft was reported at about 5:20 p.m. 

About an hour later, police received a report that someone broke into a Honda at that same station. 

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., there was also a report of a car burglary at the Bay Fair station in San Leandro, where someone broke into a parked Nissan. 

Police said the burglar smashed the car's window and stole a stereo faceplate, tools, jewelry and a vape pen.

Then at 5:53 p.m., a Toyota was reported stolen from the Bay Fair station, police said.

According to BART police, someone also stole a catalytic converter from a 2003 Acura that was parked at the Hercules Park and Ride between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
