Teen ID'd in deadly San Francisco's Sunset District shooting

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Police were searching for clues Monday after a teenage boy was shot and killed in San Francisco's Sunset District in what police suspect may have been a targeted attack.

Investigators identified the victim as Reajohn Jackson, 15, of Daly City. 

Police responded around noon to a shooting near Sunset Boulevard and Kirkham Street, police Officer Giselle Talkoff said.

Reajohn was rushed for medical treatment to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Talkoff said. Police had initially said the boy's injuries were not considered life-threatening. 

The victim may have been shot while driving, Talkoff said. Police a 16-year-old passenger in the white vehicle was not hurt. Investigators declined to identify the relationship between the two. No suspect information was immediately available.

Police did say they do not believe the shooting was a random attack.

The shooting occurred near St. Ignatius High School, which briefly kept its students from leaving campus. Police say Reajohn was not a student at the high school.

"This is the suburban community of San Francisco but the reality is that this can spread anywhere," says Brendan Raven, a neighbor who says he's lived here all his life. 

One neighbor told KTVU he heard what he initially thought were firecrackers .

"Continuous, like five shooting but continuous," says J.C. Lin who says he heard five shots.

A witness, who asked us not to identify him, says he saw the white Pontiac going southbound on Sunset in the middle lane when a dark blue four -door sedan with tinted windows pulled up beside it. A passenger in the front seat fired several shots into the white car hitting the vehicle and the 15-year-old-driver.

"I was pretty upset thinking that I could have been walking by just as it was happening with my son. We chose to raise our family here, but it's upsetting to know that a shooting happened a block away from your house," said Stephanie Ikeda, a neighbor who says she would often walk in the area with her 8-month-old son.
　
"We have a lot of homeowners here who've lived here for 30, 40 plus years. This is alarming. This is scary," says Brittany Paz, a neighbor.
　
Neighbors say this deadly shooting along with burglaries and even an armed robbery in recent months are giving them pause.

"I grew up here. I don't want to have to move but I don't want my son to grow up in a neighborhood where things like this can happen," says Ideda.
