Local firefighters assisting with search and rescue efforts in Texas

The Menlo Park Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force received orders to go to Texas Sunday Afternoon.

The team will assist with search and rescues in areas affected by Hurricane Harvery. 

Fire officials say they do not know what area of Texas they will be going to at this time. 

Firefighters in Oakland have also received orders to assist with rescue efforts in Texas.

A crew of specially trained firefighters from the department's own task force spent Saturday packing s upplies and gathering the gear needed for the job.

The first responders are specially trained in wide area searched, water rescues, medical aid, and assessing hazmat situation. 

The teams will be gone for up to three weeks.
