Oakland holiday tree ceremony to light up Jack London Square

Photos with Santa in the Catalyst Airship, carolers, and a 55-foot Christmas tree decked out in over 5,000 lights are all part of Jack London Square Lights Up for the Holidays. The annual East Bay tradition is scheduled for Friday, December 4th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Broadway and Embarcadero in Oakland.

This year the holiday event embraces the spirit of giving with a couple of different donation drives, including a collection of perishable foods for the Alameda County Community Food Bank and an unwrapped toy drive hosted by Oakland Fire Department.

KTVU’s Gasia Mikaelian will be the event’s emcee, where revelers can enjoy live reindeer feeding, cookie decorating and holiday ornament making.

Fans of live music can expect performances by the Jazz Guitar Ensemble and the Oakland Spirit Orchestra, followed by Nneka’s Holiday Pop Up— a free event of over 70 Bay Area artisans that goes until 9 p.m.
