Man arrested for battering BART police officer

An Oakland man was arrested Friday evening in Orinda on suspicion of battering a police officer after reports he was allegedly threatening passengers on BART train, police said today.

Patrick Masai, 41, was arrested at the Orinda BART station shortly after officers responded to the station at 6:38 p.m.

Police said Masai had allegedly been threatening passengers on Pittsburg/Bay Point-bound train.

When officers found Masai at the Orinda station, he allegedly tried to walk away from them.

Masai allegedly struggled with officers and battered one of them. Officers allegedly had to use force to subdue Masai and arrest him, police said.

Masai was taken to a jail and issued an order that prevents him from riding BART for a while.
