Man arrested in connection with deadly stabbing in Hayes Valley

A San Francisco man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing homicide that took place Nov. 2 in the city's Hayes Valley neighborhood, police said this morning.

The case began when officers found Keith Harris, 48, of San Francisco, lying on the floor suffering from stab wounds in an apartment in the 300 block of Hayes Street Oct. 31, police said.

Paramedics from the fire department gave Harris medical treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, according to police.

Homicide investigators went to work on the case and identified a suspect, police said. Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff's deputies working at Zuckerberg Hospital arrested Othman Al-Muttalaby, 26, of San Francisco, who was being treated for an injury, according to police.

Al-Muttalaby was interviewed by homicide investigators and booked in absentia on suspicion of homicide, police said.

Al-Muttalby is due for arraignment this afternoon but that could be postponed if he's still in the hospital.

Although an arrest has been made, investigators are asking anyone with information to call the San Francisco Police Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or Text-A-Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. Callers can remain anonymous.
