OAKLAND (BCN)-- A man who was killed in a baseball bat attack in Oakland's Uptown district on Sunday afternoon was identified by police today as 42-year-old Cooky York of Oakland.

Oakland police said a male suspect attacked York in the 1900 block of Telegraph Avenue, near the Fox Theater, at 4:18 p.m. on Sunday.

York was taken to a local hospital shortly after he was attacked but he died there a short time later, police said.

Oakland police haven't released the suspect's name, however, Alameda County jail records indicate that Juan Espino, 29, was arrested in connection with the fatal attack. Espino is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, although he hasn't yet been formally charged.

Jail records indicate that Espino, who's being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin without bail on suspicion of murder, works as a bartender.
