Police in San Jose are trying to piece together what led up to a homicide in the city's south side Thursday. The shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. on Misty Glen Court near Sylvandale Middle School. Family members said the victim was a father of three children.

In this quiet cul-de-sac in south San Jose, family members could be seen consoling one another stunned to discover their loved one was shot at his home Thursday afternoon. His wife was visibly distraught. She was frantically trying to reach him.

Neighbors said they heard gunfire just before 1:30 p.m. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Police said he died at the scene.

SkyFox was overhead and captured San Jose Police Department’s CSI unit. A yellow tarp with a body underneath it was also seen in the front yard.

Family members identified the victim as Khanh Kieu, a father in his 50's with two sons and a young daughter. They said he was a doctor in Vietnam who immigrated with his family to the United States five years ago. They have no idea why anyone would shoot him.

“Fourteen cop cars that I count, I thought what was going on here,” said Neighbor Nary Krom. “I thought it was a robbery or some home invasion.”

Neighbors like Krom are as stunned as family members. She said she's never heard of a killing in her neighborhood and is saddened for the family's loss.

“I’m concerned because I've lived here for 20 years and I've never seen anything like this before,” said Krom.

Police have not released a motive and no suspects have been named in San Jose’s 13th homicide of the year.
