OAKLAND, Calif. (BCN) - A male victim was shot and killed this morning in East Oakland in the city's 12th homicide this year, police said.
Dispatchers received calls of the shooting at 11:16 a.m. near the intersection of 99th Avenue and Plymouth Street, less than a block from two middle schools.
The victim was unresponsive when officers arrived and died where officers found him, police said.
Another fatal shooting happened only about a block away in the 1500 block of 100th Avenue. Two other people were injured in that shooting as well.
The killing is the 12th homicide in Oakland this year, including a shooting on board a BART train near the West Oakland station in January investigated by BART police.
Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call the Police Department's homicide section at (510) 238-3821 or the tip line at (510) 238-7950.
Just one week ago, KTVU reported on Oakland's crime rate being way down, including only seven homicides for 2016 at that point.
