Man with serious injuries following shooting in South Berkeley

BERKELEY (BCN) A man suffered serious injuries this afternoon in a shooting in South Berkeley, police said. 

Reports of gunfire came in to the Police Department at 2:12 p.m. The gunfire was in the 2900 block of Sacramento Street. 

Officers responded and once there they found a man in his 40s with gunshot wounds, police said. 

Officers began first aid and the man was taken to a trauma center to be treated for serious injuries. 

Police are asking the community to get in touch with the Police Department's homicide unit if they have any information or video footage related to the shooting.

Police will be adding patrols to the South Berkeley area, at least in the short term.
