A suspected drunk driver is accused of three separate crashes, including one that took the life of another driver, according to authorities.

The driver has been identified as 19-year-old Carlos Villalobos of San Jose.

Investigators said at 10:30 p.m. Monday, the suspect, later identified as Villalobos, was involved in a hit-and- run crash at the Denny's parking lot on Capitol Expressway and Tuers Road.

Police say the suspect then hit another car at Capitol and Senter Road.

The last crash occurred around 10:45 p.m., at Senter and Singleton Roads, police said.

"Ran a red light, and struck a vehicle that had a green light, and was making a left turn," said Lt. Chris Monahan, San Jose Police Department. "The vehicle that was struck was pushed forward into the intersection, and the driver of that vehicle was killed here at the scene."

Authorities identified the victim, who was driving a yellow Volkswagen Beetle, as 36-year-old Carlos Manrique Torres of San Jose.

Villalobos was taken to the hospital for treatment. Lt. Monahan said he appeared intoxicated.

“I feel the pain that his family is going through,” a neighbor said. “It’s very said.”

The San Jose Police Traffic Investigation Unit is handling the case, Villalobos is being held at the Santa Clara County Jail on DUI and hit and run charges. It is possible he could face a vehicular manslaughter charge as well. .

There were no other injuries in the four crashes, that involved a total of six vehicles.
