New extension of San Andreas Fault could be site of the next big earthquake

Scientists are mapping a newly-found section of the San Andreas Fault.

And they say it could be the site of the next big one-- a so-called 'tectonic time bomb.'

Researchers have been warning that Southern California is long overdue for a massive seven-point earthquake... Or greater.

And many think it could happen at an extension of the San Andreas Fault, called the 'Durmid Ladder Structure', located above the Salton Sea south of Palm Springs.

Seismologists say more study is needed before they can determine just how dangerous this new fault section really is.
